Art for the River Exhibition and Benefit Auction

Rosemary Hocking-Sanzari

The Ossining Arts Council is thrilled to launch the Art for the River Exhibition and Benefit Auction in partnership with Ossining Riverworks and Riverkeeper. This unique event will feature artwork that reflects the beauty and ecological significance of the Hudson River and Hudson Valley. The show will take place at Ossining Riverworks and online from November 9 - 24, 2024, with an Artist Reception on November 9th and a ticketed benefit auction on November 15th at Ossining Riverworks, located at 30 State Street in Ossining, NY, the site of the historic Hill House—a Greek Revival home
from the 1820s. It provides a unique blend of historical elegance and modern functionality, making it an ideal venue for an event that will showcase the artistic talents of our community and raise both funds and awareness for Riverkeeper, an organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of the Hudson River and its watershed. For over 50 years, Riverkeeper has been a vital force in enhancing the ecological health of the Hudson River and its surrounding environments through advocacy, education, and legal action.

The OAC seeks up to two entries from professional, amateur, and student visual artists who are current Ossining Arts Council members to be juried for acceptance by jurors Jim Christensen and Eleanor Kwei. Jim is the president of the Croton Council on the Arts, a lifelong photographer whose work has appeared in numerous galleries in the NYC metro area, and a speaker and judge at photo clubs in the Northeast. Eleanor is a pen & ink artist who has worked as a graphic designer in the publishing industry for the past three decades. She worked as the colorist for the Winnie the Pooh stories and poems for E.P. Dutton, and later, linework artist for Disney’s Classic Pooh. Since 2017, Eleanor has curated various Lower Hudson region art events, with a specific focus on Climate change-related exhibits.
