Rich Wagner

Rich Wagner's primary mediums are acrylics and watercolor.  These mediums lend themselves to his Impressionistic style and his use of strong colors.  Mindful of Paul Gauguin's advice: "It is better to paint from memory: your soul triumphs," Rich's works are based on experience but as seen through the filter of memory.

Born in Manhattan, Rich has lived in England and in upstate New York.  He has traveled extensively by ship and the sea is often an inspiration for his work as are the places he visits.  Examples of his work are included in private collections and in the Law Library at Pace University.   He often participates in exhibitions in New York City and the surrounding area.  His works have also been shown at Gallery Northeast in Kinderhook, New York.

Rich grew up with art. His mother was a professional artist who also taught art while his father was an amateur artist.   Consequently, his initial training in art was in his mother's atelier.  Further artistic training has included more than 250 credit hours of study at the Art Students League of New York.  He has also taken classes in art history and/or technique at the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum in New York as well as the Royal Academy and National Gallery in London.

In addition to creating art, Rich has written extensively about art including biographies of great artists, profiles of art museums and reviews of art exhibitions.  These appear on his website BeyondshipsArt.com.

A practicing attorney for 20 years, Rich has degrees from Cornell University, Iona College, and Pace University and has studied at Cambridge University in England.
